Although still nearly a year away I am putting in place a schedule of events over the weekend to give everyone time to get their ducks in a row and make time and travel arrangements to get here. Entry for all events is free but you will be shamelessly hustled to buy/donate/bid on boxing/memorabilia/raffle tickets for prizes/merchandise and non boxing stuff as well.To not be hassled buy or donate $200 and you will be issued with a wristband you can wave to say you’ve suffered enough.
Monies raised will go to two causes https://www.touchedbyolivia.com.au/ and my own project Bourke talent-id https://joesboxing.com.au/bourke-talent-id-progress-report/ . So that givers may get a tax deduction if donating to Touched by Olivia I will get people to pay directly via their website. Keep the receipt it counts towards your $200 get out of jail card.
. Below the first draft and perhaps final draft of our anniversary Tshirt. We do take our boxing seriously but it’s time to poke a bit of fun at ourselves as well.

Draft Schedule for the weekend this could be subject to change. All clases cancelled for Saturday, instead a series of seminars will accompany the big black and gold shirt fight night which starts from 6pm Saturday night.

Saturday 31st July 10.30am – 12pm – Self Defense with a difference. no experience necessary. I have had a couple of major self defence situations throughout my life which has shaped what I believe might work in a stresful self defense ituation. No self defence situation is the same and will often come at times you are not expecting, not on your territory and ceratinly mostly when you are not ready or prepared. Hanshi Renzie said before my first tournament in karate. “Under Pressure we revert to what we know best”. We need something simple to overcome the Fight or Flight response like a physical mantra. Shihan Malcolm Ayles (RIP) became an expert intructor in a knife fighting and defense system called Amok taught to special forces around the globe. I believe this is the only system worth looking at when it comes to real knife defense. One of the Amok instructors said in a seminar I attended “No matter how long and hard you practise you could still be “blue veined” by a 7 year old. We will concentrate however on the improvised weapons part where using whatever is handy to diminish the knife holders grip on the knife so disarming techniques may be more successful.
Saturday 31st July 12pm – 2pm – Performance Under Pressure. Hanshi Renzie Hanham QSM. With an 8th Dan karate plus a black belt in Judo, Renzie ran Seido Karate Christchurch for 55 years and co-founded Gazing with Dr Ceri Evans another karate exponent and Rhodes scholar in pscychaiatry which deals with sports mental skills performance. This methodology has been adopted by the mighty all blacks and netball Silver Ferns. Renzie was mental skills cocah for the Canterbury Crusaders for a number of years but that’s not all since 2000 in Sydney Renzie has helped Olympian triathales and even boxers be in the best mental shape they can be. I once asked to help Olympian and World Champion Cyclist Kaarle McCullough who was in a lull after 2012 London Olympics. I asked Renzie for some advice and was stunned how simple yet effective the methods were.
Saturday 31st July 2pm – 4pm Boxing Seminars – Depending on availability I hope to have a who’s who of boxing contributing to the seminar so cross fingers some for all of some like Jeff Fenech 4 x World Champion, Joel Keegan coach of two soon to be three profesional and amateur world champions, Justann Crawford two time olympian, Emi Tissera Australian professional Bantamweight Champion.

There will be raffles and silent auctions and stuff to buy on the night but if you spend or donate $200 you can be issued with a wristband that means you have been harassed enough by our ticket sellers.
Sunday 1st August 2027 9.30am-10.30am – Buddhist essentials – My childhood best buddy Mark Templeton has been a very successful CEO of technology startups and has recently sold his company Aeroqual (air quality testing) into the USA and has more time to devote to his other lifelong passion Buddhism. Mark as you would imagine is a great communicator and in one of my darkest hours fighting cancer, Mark really helped with some insights from his study.
Sunday 1st August 10.30am – 11am – Bunkai Boxing – With 28 years of karate and then coaching amateur competition boxing for 20 years I have noticed so many techniques from karate that are actually used in boxing but not quite the way they are used in karate. The two styles of martial art that transfer easiest to amateur boxing in my opinion are not Kyokushinkai hard style that it i but shotokan and wing chun kung fu so i hope to change a few minds on the value of points karate as amateur boxing is really points karate but with knockouts although they are rare.
Sunday 1st August 2027 11am-12pm – Nano technology and Concussion. Hans Van der Vorn long time friend and former Karate colleague is CEO and major shareholder of IZON that operates in the medical technology space in the field of Nanotechnology.
