Recently i got talking to one of my coaching colleagues who runs the Brotherhood boxing club in Greenacre and mentioned the story of the Mosque in Bourke and how i would like to rebirth. He got excited and said that his community would like to help. So i am now trying to connect the mayor of Bourke with the Mayor of Canterbury/Bankstown to move it forward. Their idea is a good one to avoid the blowback from just building a Mosque instead setting it up as a museum or site of interest here and selling the idea to council that it will attract visitors from all over the world.
I found this very well presented tourist book in Bourke ehich No 7 states the Mosque in Bourke was the first in Australia. I don’t think that’s true but if they print it they should own it.
Not related but the first pub in Bourke could have been where my house and shop is now. Either that or very very close.
